Next BA Everywhere Committee Meeting
Sunday Dec 22 5pm

Revolution Books
1103 N. Ashland Ave
You're invited! Bring your ideas, enthusiasm and creativity!
WHY this committee? To break out of the stifling political atmosphere and dare to dream and change the world - people need to know about this revolutionary leader, Bob Avakian (BA), and his new synthesis of revolution and communism. To do it right requires huge amounts of money. BA Everywhere is a national campaign that will make BA a household name and, in so doing, make this revolution known. The stakes are no less than whether or not humanity is going to continue to suffer needlessly under the vicious workings of capitalism. read more

Sunday Agenda: Promoting BA - Raising Funds and DVD Showings

1. Share experiences of watching and showing the film "Stepping into the Future to friends and family, a goal we set at our meeting last week.
2. Follow up on plans made at our last meeting: what have we learned? Problems we've run into?
3. Brainstorm money raising ideas for the BA Everywhere Campaign. Funds have been raised nationally through bake sales, tamale sales and going out to professors then getting others to match their donations. Solicit donated items of at least $50 value to sell on Craig's list. Someone has volunteered to do this.
4. Continue
Pick up a pack of pluggers at RB
our discussion about a significant cultural event in February, 2014, that can raise funds. What would be involved? Should it be performances only or performance plus the showing "Stepping into the Future"? What other ideas and contacts do people have?

5. Discuss the national project to get volunteers to assist on the BA Everywhere portal at the revcom.us website.

**FYI: Just in time for the holidays - for yourself or friends you want to introduce to this leader and the movement for revolution, Revolution Books is offering a great special -

Revolution Books

Revolution Cafe Holiday Fundraising Party
If you Missed it...

The December 6 opening of Revolution Café was an exciting, beginning step in raising funds and introducing new people to Revolution Books. A DJ played music, sand poken word and poetry were in the house. RB's space was lit up with new energy and lively support from many people - both new and familiar. In the course of the evening, $310.00 was raised for RB's emergency fund drive and it gave a nice boost to holiday book sales.

RB's Revolution Café aims to do regular fundraising cultural events bringing together artists to contribute to what Bob Avakian has called "a radical revolt against a revolting culture." The holiday party was an exciting, initial experience in getting this off the ground. Many more people are needed to be part of making this go forward.

Revolution Books kicked off the night with a short statement from RB welcoming people and spoke on how essential RB is to building a movement for revolution and the importance of applying Bob Avakian's new synthesis of communism to cultural events at RB.

Revolution Café opened with spoken word poets hitting the mic. They were followed by a poem on resistance to torture and the need for resistance to this horrific crime against humanity. People danced, ate great food contributed by supporters of RB, and bought raffle tickets to many gifts donated by local merchants.

Plans are being made for Revolution Café to hold another event in later January and we are calling to artists of all types: from spoken word, theater, poets, singing, musicians, and comedians to be part of Revolution Cafe's ongoing programs. To be a part of these programs, contact Revolution Books at 773-489-0930 orrevbookschi@yahoo.com.

Tar Sands
Tar Sands in Alberta, Canada
Thomas Frank
on the Tar Sands in North America
Presentation & Slideshow

Thursday * Dec. 12 * 7:00 pm

The largest refinery for Tar Sands in North America is just miles from Chicago. Thomas Frank has written and spoken out for years about the British Petroleum refinery in East Chicago, IN, and faced retaliation for doing so. The BP refinery is fed by pipelines around Lake Michigan and is the source of the mountains of pet coke in SE Chicago that are spewing black powder over the area and sparking protests by local residents. Join us for Thomas Frank's slideshow and for discussion of these life- and planet-threatening developments at the center of U.S. energy program, and resistance to it, from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
About Thomas Frank
THOMAS FRANK has lived in East Chicago for 17 years. He studied Urban Planning in graduate school and became a director of projects to clean up of Indiana Harbor Shipping Canal and Grand Calumet River, considered to be the most polluted bodies of water in the country. Frank spoke out against widescale corruption he found in projects to re-industrialize the southern shores of Lake Michigan, especially the BP refinery expansion. Standing largely alone in BP-dominated towns, he was relived of all public duties. Frank has spoken at conferences and universities in the Midwest and Alberta, Canada working to connect communities who are on the frontlines fighting Tar Sands projects. Recently Frank helped form "Tar Sands Free Midwest."

State of EMERGENCY!
The Plunder of Our Planet, The Environmental Catastrophe & The Real Revolutionary Solution
(Special Issue on the Environment)

If we don’t hurry up and protect and preserve fast-vanishing natural ecosystems around the world, we will very likely witness before too long an unprecedented series of domino effects—a qualitative unraveling and degeneration of the natural world on this planet...

But we can do something. People are acting on this now—they are sounding the alarm, they are demonstrating, they are resisting with real determination, they are doing important research, they are thinking through alternate ways of doing things, and they are carrying forward important projects.
These actions are crucial. But ultimately our actions must actually correspond to a true understanding of the causes of the problem, and to the real solution to it.  read the whole article

Why Support Revolution Books?

It really matters that there is a way out of the madness that engulfs the world and that there is a store that is about engaging and exploring why the world is the way it is and how the future could be radically different.

Wars are fought, laws written, people jailed and suppressed to enforce and reinforce these relations. All this misery, all the outrages that people agonize over, have their common source in the system that dominates the world today - capitalism-imperialism.

Revolution Books is at a crossroads financially. For RB to expand and survive you are needed! We promote the spirit, the critical inquiry, and the scientific method that's infused by the revolutionary strategy, the poetic spirit, and the theory of Bob Avakian that people need in order to change the world. Be a part of this, support, sustain, and donate to Revolution Books in any way you can.

Become one of the 5 new sustainers needed this month to put RB on a stronger financial footing.
