Why you should be there on October 2!

1. Because the right to abortion has effectively been taken away in Texas and the fascist Republican Party are moving to take away the right to abortion on a national level. RIGHT NOW, women's futures are being foreclosed, their dreams and lives shattered – forced to become mothers against their will and desires. The “handmaid’s tale” future is no longer science fiction but is now real and upon us. Forced motherhood is female enslavement. Christian Fascist Theocrats—Get Your Laws and Vigilantes Off Our Bodies!

If you join this contingent you are saying that you refuse to accept this and you will FIGHT it, and you will be calling on others to fight it.

2. Because Saturday, October 2 needs to be a turning point in building relentless in-the-streets resistance – not symbolic protest, raise your voice for an afternoon and go home. The Break ALL the Chains contingents will be loud, lively and defiant sending the message, and challenge: No going back! No surrender! Abortion on Demand and Without Apology!

This Revolution Books program, produced in partnership with the Brooklyn Book Festival, will feature scholar-activist Cornel West, who wrote the introduction for this new edition of the book, in conversation with Andy Zee of Revolution Books and The RNL—Revolution Nothing Less—Show.

This will be a program for all who are outraged by the horrors of the world today, and all who ache for liberation. One of the most influential radical texts of the mid-20th century, The Wretched of the Earth analyzes the dehumanizing effects of colonialism-imperialism on the oppressed of the Third World. It is a powerful call to revolt. Cornel West’s introduction to this 60th anniversary edition addresses the book’s significance and legacy.    A central question: What is the content of national liberation and revolution in today’s world? At a time when conditions in the global South cry out ever more for revolutionary transformation… and at a time of acute division in the U.S. heightening revolutionary possibility, this program with Cornel West, the trenchant radical democratic philosopher and activist, and Andy Zee, advocate for the New Communism developed by Bob Avakian, promises to be a critical and engaged conversation.

On October 2, the Women’s March and other groups have called for powerful demonstrations all over the country in defense of abortion rights.These rights are under relentless attack—and since September 1 have been effectively taken away in Texas. This is the future that the fascist Republican Party and the courts they increasingly dominate are nailing down—a future that is not yet being resisted and opposed anywhere near firmly or defiantly enough. Everyone who cares about the emancipation of the half of humanity that is female should be at one of these marches on October 2 and make this a turning point in building relentless in-the-streets resistance.
 

The Revcoms are forming a contingent to march on that day of all those who see the need for uncompromising resistance in the streets against these horrible laws AND who hunger for a whole new world. If you are sick and tired of women being treated as less than full human beings... if you agonize about the “handmaid’s tale” future that is no longer science fiction but is now real and upon us... if you recognize that there can be no compromise with Christian fascists and unjust laws that enforce female enslavement... and most of all, if you see the need to dig up the roots of this and every other form of oppression and exploitation and bring in a whole new emancipatory world... then you need to be part of this contingent.

Bob Avakian, the revolutionary leader who we revcoms follow, has said this:.
 

You cannot break all the chains, except one. You cannot say you want to be free of exploitation and oppression, except you want to keep the oppression of women by men. You can’t say you want to liberate humanity yet keep one half of the people enslaved to the other half. The oppression of women is completely bound up with the division of society into masters and slaves, exploiters and exploited, and the ending of all such conditions is impossible without the complete liberation of women. All this is why women have a tremendous role to play not only in making revolution but in making sure there is all-the- way revolution. The fury of women can and must be fully unleashed as a mighty force for proletarian revolution.

  Three Main Points on the Texas Abortion Law

Texas Effectively Bans Abortion—and the Silence Is Deafening:

1. On September 1, abortion became effectively illegal in Texas. Women who had appointments for today or in coming days to terminate a pregnancy cannot do that now—because the law empowers any fanatic or woman hater anywhere to use the power of the state to sue anybody that assists women in getting an abortion. Imagine if you were one of those women with an appointment for today... you want to go to college and continue your education... you’re already struggling with making ends meet and can’t possibly raise a new baby... you’re a victim of rape and became impregnated... or you just don’t want to raise a child... for whatever reason, you want and need to terminate the pregnancy—and now find the door slammed in your face.

We need to call this fascist Texas law for what it is: Forced motherhood is enslavement of half of humanity!

2. As Bob Avakian said many years ago, and as is even more directly true today:

The whole question of the position and role of women in society is more and more acutely posing itself in today’s extreme circumstances—this is a powderkeg in the U.S. today. It is not conceivable that all this will find any resolution other than in the most radical terms and through extremely violent means. The question yet to be determined is: will it be a radical reactionary or a radical revolutionary resolution, will it mean the reinforcing of the chains of enslavement or the shattering of the most decisive links in those chains and the opening up of the possibility of realizing the complete elimination of all forms of such enslavement.

As we revcoms have said in our Declaration and Call To Get Organized Now For A Real Revolution, “There is a way to a world and a future that is worth living, and is worth fighting for right now: revolution—a real revolution, not playing around with a few changes that leave this system in place and in power, while benefitting only a small number.” To make that real you, and many people like you, need to find out about this revolution and its leadership, Bob Avakian and learn about “why an actual revolution is necessary, what such a revolution involves, and what kind of society this is aiming for.” Because as the Declaration and Call also states: “Society is being ripped apart. Those who rule are locked in a bitter fight among themselves, and they cannot hold things together in the way they have in the past. Although there are a lot of bad things connected with this and it could lead to something really terrible, it is also possible that we could wrench something really positive out of it—revolution, to put an end to this system and bring something much better into being.”

3. We CANNOT allow this to go down. The streets across the country should be filled with furious and massive outpourings of women and everyone else who feels in their bones that to deny women the right and ability to control their own reproduction is condemning them to slavery... people who are determined to STOP this from happening and dare to act in ways commensurate with the urgent situation. All of society needs to be mobilized to stop this fascist law and all the other attacks on women—and to look deeply into the nature of the society that would allow women to be enslaved in this way. And growing numbers need to lift their sights to and get organized into the only real and tremendously liberating alternative to this system and its intensifying horrors: an actual revolution!
