Revolution Summer! Chicago is about getting youth into a revolution to emancipate humanity and out of shooting each other

Many people agonize about the situation in Chicago and candidly speak about the fact that well-intended programs have been unable to make a dent in it. At the same time, some say they aren't ready to go to revolution as the solution, while acknowledging they aren't sure what is the answer.

Even if you have questions and reservations, you need to make a commitment to actually come to the fund-raiser on Sunday June 25th.

WHY?

1. Because it matters if you come, interact and learn about this project directly from Carl Dix (representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party), the volunteers and the Revolution Club about their approach and experiences on the front lines.
2. Because it matters for the Revolution Summer! folks to meet you and know that there are progressive people who from their own varied perspectives "have their backs" and are supportive even as they learn more about it. Financial donations are essential and much needed, but also meeting the range of donors opens up possibilities, builds bridges and community.
3. Because it matters that we maximize the success of this fund-raiser in both funds raised and alliances forged so it becomes a launching pad to go from raising $20,000 so far to $50,000 in the near future. Today, Chicago is most famous for one thing: young Black and Latino people shooting each other. Imagine what it would mean for Chicago to become known as the place where youth caught up in the 'street life' break with it and become revolutionaries. This is what Revolution Summer! is all about.

Meet Carl Dix (representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party), volunteers from around the country, and the Revolution Club. Ask your questions, engage with them about their relentless battles with youth to take up different morals and values. These bold fighters need our support, especially now financially. They've set up an organizing center in South Shore; one is planned for the West Side, crucial steps in carrying out their mission to win youth to stop the insanity and get into the revolution. There's rent to pay, food to buy, materials to print, cell phone monthly bills, etc., etc. Please donate generously. Revolution Summer! is taking place in a context where Trump, the American Hitler, threatens to "send in the feds" to Chicago -- intensifying the police state that already brutalizes and murders youth and enforces the conditions that give birth to gang violence. Local columnists encourage walling off neighborhoods like Englewood and sending in the national guard. Trump's education secretary, DeVos, aims to gut the public schools even harder spreading Christian fundamentalist schools that will turn Black and Latino children into unthinking robots. All this will be the spear point of a whole fascist offensive against people of color, an intensifying genocide.

In the face of this, answering a call for volunteers, people joined with the Revolutionary Communist Party for a plan to radically turn this around. In short, to make Chicago famous for something else: a city where the youth who are being targeted get organized to overthrow the system that targets them.

This means mobilizing youth and others against the oppression coming down but even more, right now, it means struggling with what these youth are caught up in, with how they are seeing the world and their role in that world. The Revolution Club opened an organizing center in South Shore with plans to do the same on the west side of Chicago. Shortly after the center opened, 7 people were killed in 24 hours in this neighborhood--which Carl Dix spoke to in his statement, "Get Out of This Insanity and Get Into the Revolution." This gives a sense of what urgently cries out to be done-and that this club is there on the front lines, fighting to do it. The painful reality of Chicago: summer is coming, but instead of looking forward to a time where kids can be playing, parents dread it, for fear their children will be shot-and they hold them inside.

As Carl Dix, representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party, put it at a rally on the South Side of Chicago: "It is heartbreaking the way that so many of our young people are caught up in killing each other." Then he made a vow: "This has got to stop and the revolution declares that it's gonna stop it this summer by giving our young people something that is worth living for and fighting for."

TWO REVOLUTION CLUB MEMBERS ARRESTED AT

GOOD FRIDAY PEACE MARCH

Come to the Revolution Club office in South Shore to meet the Revolution Club and to find out why they were arrested and what the Revolution Club is really all about.

When: Thursday, April 20 at 7pm

Where: 1857 E. 71st Street

The Catholic church's Cardinal Cupich organized a Good Friday procession through Englewood on Chicago's south side to pray for an end to the violence among the people.

At the end of the procession, two women from the Revolution Club, Chicago were arrested while other members were menaced by Chicago police. We demand to know why they were arrested. Did the Catholic church or sponsors urge the authorities to drag away the revolutionaries on Good Friday? If not, then where is the outrage and the demand that the charges be dropped immediately?

We challenge anyone to tell us what is wrong with what is said in the quote from Bob Avakian (BA) that we carried? Or our other signs challenging people?

• Oppressed people who are unable, or unwilling, to confront reality as it actually is are condemned to remain enslaved and oppressed. (BA, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party-RCP)

• If praying could stop our youth from killing each other, it would have stopped a long time ago. If you are going to pray--pray for people to get into the revolution--and then support them when they do!

• Get out of this insanity of killing each other. Get into the Revolution!

AUTHORITIES SAY: PRAYING--OK, REVOLUTION--NO!

In making these highly visible arrests on Good Friday, the state was enforcing the message that you can pray for an end to the violence among the people but you can not call for an end to the system that creates the conditions and the values that are responsible and give rise to youth killing each other by denying them any future. What does this tell you?

These arrests were BS and an outrage. Here is how it went down. Before the start of the Good Friday procession, the revolutionaries marched up to a gathering of a couple of hundred people, holding up their signs and banners for all to see and passing out flyers through the crowd of the message: What The Trump/Pence Regime Will Mean For Black People-And What Must Be Done About It, Now! and a message from the Revolution Club: "To the Youth Who Are Caught Up in the Violence - You Are NOT 'Too Far Gone,' But You Need to Get into This Revolution or You Will Be." People came over to talk and to find out who these revolutionaries were and one came to help hold the signs. Some other people stood in front of them and prayed as if their message was evil. Police gave them a citation for using amplified sound (even though the Revolution Club members were careful to not be disruptive of the event) but told them that they were welcome to be part of the procession if they didn't use the sound.

As the procession was ending, the Revolution Club marched up to meet it, (without a sound system), and the police immediately vamped on them. The police said that they could not be in the street, even as hundreds filled the blocked-off street. One Revolution Club member was grabbed and arrested while others were backed onto the sidewalk. Some people began to chant "let her go," and police grabbed and arrested another club member. Other club members were followed and menaced by police as they tried to leave the area. A priest and a videographer trailed along to protect them. The fact that this was being filmed made the police back off. The two Revolution Club members arrested were held for hours while the police went back and forth about what to charge them with since they had no cause to arrest them in the first place.

Everyone who wants to see our youth get into radically changing the world and becoming emancipators of humanity in the process needs to condemn these arrests and demand that the charges be dropped immediately. Call Edward Siskel, Corporation Counsel at the City of Chicago Law Department 312-744-0220 and tell him to drop the charges.

A lot of people ask us if everyone in the Revolution Club doesn't believe in god. The answer is that people who have religious beliefs can join the Revolution Club as long as they uphold Point #5 of the Club's 6 Points of Attention: "We search for and fight for the truth no matter how unpopular, even as we listen to and learn from the observations, insights and criticisms of others." The Revolution Club is led by the RCP which is thoroughly scientific and does not believe in any kind of gods or supernatural beings. The Club and the Party work with many religious people and clergy on the basis of the following principle:

• While many people will do positive things in opposing the crimes of this system, we need to approach everything--evaluate every political program and every organized force in society, every kind of culture, values and ways of treating people--according to how it relates to the revolution we need, to end all oppression. We should unite with people whenever we can, and struggle with them whenever we need to, to advance the revolution.

Featured speaker is Carl Dix, a co-initiator of Refuse Fascism, and a courageous freedom fighter from the 1960s who went on to become a revolutionary fighter and a communist. Dix spent two years in military prison for refusing to fight in the unjust Vietnam War. He emerged unrepentant and went on to become a founding member of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), USA, dedicating his life to the emancipation of all humanity. Today, Carl is a follower of and advocate for Bob Avakian, his leadership and his visionary new synthesis of communism. Carl Dix and Cornel West co-founded the Stop Mass Incarceration Network (SMIN), and Rise Up October that brought thousands into the streets in New York City demanding a stop to police terror. Carl recently was dragged out of the Senate Hearing on Jeff Sessions' appointment to be Attorney General chanting "No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA".
