Film Showing
and Discussion with Special Guests

"God Loves Uganda"

Join us at Revolution Books next Tuesday, June 17, 7pm, for a screening of "God Loves Uganda" (83 minutes), a powerful documentary of American Christian fascists' campaign to enforce their deadly "traditional American values" of homophobia and patriarchy on this African country.

"Filmmaker Roger Ross Williams exposes the missionary movement in Uganda as an outgrowth of Africa's colonialist past and a twenty-first century crusade to recreate a continent of people in the image and likeness of America's most extreme fundamentalists. Williams captures vérité footage so shocking that viewers may be squirming in their seats. Masterfully crafted and astonishingly provocative, God Loves Uganda may be the most terrifying film of the year."
Sundance London, April 2014

Discussion following the film will include Brent Holman-Gomez and Wayne Besen:

Brent Holman-Gomez's work with Gay Liberation Network has developed international solidarity of LGBTQIs, particularly from Iran, Russia, Honduras, and Nigeria, while calling attention to scapegoating and those that would deny LGBT communities' very existence.  As part of the Planning Team for Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches, he has promoted African organizations that work to make religious groups inclusive of LGBTIs.

Wayne Besen is the Founding Executive Director of Truth Wins Out and author of "Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth" (Haworth, 2003). In 2006, Besen was recognized in the Advocate Magazine's "People of the Year" issue. He hosts "I've Got Issues" on Chicago's WCPT radio. He organized the American Prayer Hour, an event that shined a spotlight on the role American evangelicals played in the introduction of Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

$5 suggested donation to keep Revolution Books open; no one turned away.
