On the front lines in Ferguson |
The movement for revolution has been on the front lines--from fighting for justice for Michael Brown in Ferguson, to the fight in Texas to stop the biggest wave of abortion clinic closures since Roe v Wade, to building the fight for justice for Roshad McIntosh, a young Black man murdered by Chicago police earlier this week on the West Side.
And where do people in Chicago meet this movement for revolution? Where do they know they can get the latest issue of Revolution newspaper? Where can they find others agonizing over the big questions facing humanity? And where can they get into the possibility of a radically different world opened up by the theory forged by Bob Avakian (BA) that is the heart of this movement? Yes, at Revolution Books!
As a new volunteer at Revolution Books commented, this is for everyone who has taken heart from these events and been inspired and intrigued by the Revolution in the midst of them--"Now is the time to act on your moral convictions!"
Everyone can contribute, and everyone's participation is critical to building this community. Plans are already underway to mobilize for the Climate March in New York on Sept. 21, to make the October Month of Resistance to Mass Incarceration a major turning point in stopping the ongoing slow genocide before it accelerates, and much more. And in a conceptually starved landscape, we need more film showings, author events, and the regular series of viewings and discussions of the DVD
BA Speaks: Revolution, Nothing Less! that you find only at Revolution Books. It's a center... a place, where these things happen and people can engage with each other.
What can YOU do?
Volunteer to spend an hour or two or three at the store, ensuring we can be open as scheduled. Our new hours are Wed., Thurs, Fri 4 pm to 7 pm / Sat. and Sunday 2 pm to 5pm, and we have slots available for all 5 days.
Call the store (773-489-0930) and let us know your availability for this week, and for any time in September.
Here are a few other ideas, and we want to hear how else you can contribute!
--Stop in Wednesday, September 3, to pick up the latest issue of Revolution newspaper and get extras for friends.
--Donate your gently used books that can be turned into funds to keep our doors open.
--Donate $5 or $50 or $100 to order new books and pay our monthly expenses.
--Bring in your extra, working, printer (with USB port). Drop it off or let us know when we can pick it up from you.
--Did you recently upgrade to a larger screen TV? We could use the model you're retiring! Many store programs are anchored around video presentations, and we have loaned out our 60" TV to do outreach in Ferguson and on the West Side.
And most of all we need your thinking, your heart, and your ideas!
