And Still the Earth
A novel by Ignácio de Loyola Brandão

Saturday, May 21, noon

Join us for a discussion of this 1981 novel by a Brazilian science fiction author. Brandão describes a society coming apart at the seams because of the destructive workings of turbo capitalism, global imperialism, and environmental crisis, and draws a horrifying picture of the possible future facing humanity.

"Welcome to São Paulo, Brazil, in the not too distant future. Water is scarce, garbage clogs the city, movement is restricted, and the System--sinister, omnipotent, secret--rules its subjects' every movement."

And Still the Earth is a classic novel of a world ravaged by climate change, a novel that poses challenges to all of us in today's world.
