First National Organizing Meeting to Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights
Register now for the first national organizing meeting, this Sunday, January 30, at 1 pm CST. Wherever you are, whatever skills or time you have, if you refuse to let the Supreme Court deny women's rights and decimate their humanity, you are invited, you're needed, and you will be vital to this goal. Every. single. person. matters!


Defend Roe! Teach-in
Here in the Chicago area, our chapter of Refuse Fascism co-sponsored a virtual teach-in initiated by Chicago for Abortion Rights to mark the anniversary of Roe by confronting the dire status of abortion access right now, what is means to "Defend Roe!" and what it will take to do that. Speakers included Dr. Barbara Roberts, physician and abortion rights activists, Derenda Hancock of the Pinkhouse Defenders of the Jackson Women's Health Organization, and more. We highly recommend the video on the website of Haymarket Books, also one of the event's co-sponsors.

January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day What does Holocaust Remembrance Day mean when "Never Again" is now? Fascist mobs are threatening school boards and teachers, librarians, election officials, nurses and public health officials, and meeting far too little resistance. This is not just happening in some "deep red" state but right here. Last Sunday in Highland Park, anti-science, anti-mask, anti-vax MAGA thugs protested mandatory compliance with public health mandates by comparing it to the Holocaust. We are proud and inspired by the people who stood up to them, greatly outnumbered, and hope you will be too, and join us in refusing to accept a fascist America in the name of humanity. Mansoor Adayfi, an innocent man who was detained without charge for 15 years in Guantanamo, is the author of a new memoir Don't Forget Us Here: Lost and Found at Guantanamo, published in August 2021. Mansoor is a citizen of Yemen but upon his release from Guantanamo, he was sent to Serbia - a place Mansoor describes as "Guantanamo 2.0." Andy Worthington, British journalist and co-founder of CloseGuantanamo.org. Andy is internationally known for exposing the horrors of the Guantanamo detention camp, and bringing to light the true stories of the men detained. Shelby Sullivan-Bennis, a lawyer for Guantanamo prisoners and victims of U.S. drone strikes outside of war zones, will also speak on Sunday. Sunday's program will feature a video performance of a short piano piece by composer-guitarist Luis McDougal entitled "Homage to Abu." It is dedicated to Abu Zubaydah who has been repeatedly tortured and remains detained without charge at Guantanamo (for 20 years). <-- Abu Zubaydah: "I was told...that I was one of the first to receive these interrogation techniques, so no rules applied. It felt like they were experimenting and trying out techniques to be used later on other people." January 2022 marks the 20th year since the Guantanamo torture colony was set up. Joe Biden is the fourth president—two Democrats and two Republicans—to preside over a facility whose torture practices have been, for two decades, an extreme violation of U.S. and international law. In January 2002, President George W. Bush created the military prison within the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The vast majority of those held there from its beginnings were picked up without any incriminating evidence. Guantanamo prison is a shameful icon of torture, including water boarding, and of indefinite detention without charge or trial. Washington DC Saturday, 1/22:  The existential fight for abortion rights takes the stage right at the Supreme Court steps, where Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights will gather with others to declare: We refuse to let the U.S. Supreme Court deny women's humanity and decimate their rights! This is the start of a nationwide battle, a fight to win!

The U.S. Supreme Court is reviewing a Mississippi 15-week abortion ban case while it has allowed Texas to outlaw abortion after just six weeks and empower vigilantes to enforce its ban. All are designed to roll back if not overturn Roe all together. If this happens, we could see a world far worse than before Roe, as an emboldened right wing mobilizes to assault all reproductive rights and our control over our bodies and lives. How can we mobilize the majority that still defends Roe? Polls show that upwards of 70% of Americans are for upholding Roe, yet many do not realize how in danger we are of Roe being overturned.

Many see the dangers but do not see the unprecedented openings for revolution within this changed political situation. But in order for something positive to come out of all of this, YOU need to step into and join in fighting for this revolution now! In this first episode host Andy Zee sharply lays out the stakes of this historical moment, a rare time when revolution could become possible in the U.S., all of which is informed and guided by Bob Avakian's latest deeply scientific work: "Something Terrible, Or Something Truly Emancipating..."
