Revolution Club Chicago Burns American Flag at Jason Aldean Concert

Last night, the Revolution Club, Chicago led a protest that marched to the box office at the Tinley Park arena where Jason Aldean, who they dubbed a “MAGA moron,” was playing. There they burned not one, not two, more than three U.S. flags, one after another.

The protest demanded:

No More Lynch Mobs in and Out of Uniform!
No More Standing by While “Good Ol’ Boys” Prepare for Civil War!
We Need and We Demand a Whole New Way to Live. We Need to and We ARE Organizing for a Real Revolution.

“Aldean's 'Try That In a Small Town’ isn't just a racist lynching anthem, it's a call to fascist civil war!” said Leo Pargo from the Revolution Club, Chicago.  “Aldean has said people who burn the American flag should 'Try That in a Small Town' and 'see how far you make it down the road.'  We accepted the challenge Jason!  We burned that rag right outside your concert... AND we'll do it again!  We lit the American flag on fire because this country has only ever stood for slavery, genocide and war.”

After several American flags were burned, police dressed in full riot gear called the protest “unlawful” because it was “disturbing and alarming others.”

Rafael Kadaris, of the Revcoms (revolutionary communists) responded, “I hope we disturbed these Jason Aldean fans and these police enforcers!  What's really disturbing and alarming is that Aldean's lynch mob anthem about murdering protesters and people who burn the American flag went to the top of the music charts this summer. People need to wake up to what's happening, stand up to these fascists, and get organized for revolution to get rid of the whole capitalist-imperialist system which spawned them.”
Inside the concert as Aldean introduced his mega hit, two Revcoms held up a banner, “Jason Aldean is a fascist lynch mob instigator @therevcoms” (Photo here)

PLEASE DONATE to support this powerful action & challenge.  No more standing by while good ol’ boys organize for civil war and putting revolution on the map.  CAN YOU DONATE 70.00 TODAY?   $70 was the cost of the cheapest ticket to the Aldean concert that thousands attended.  MAKE YOUR STATEMENT BY  DONATING $70 (or whatever amount you can do now.)

Jason Aldean’s mega hit, “Try That in a Small Town,” is a vicious expression of America’s lynch mob tradition. As Ida B. Wells said in a speech here in Chicago, “Our country’s national crime is lynching.”* With over 200 million views online, Aldean’s song glorifies and promotes that “national crime” again today. It gives expression to a whole move by fascists, led by but not limited to Trump and the Republicans, to bring back those “good ol’ days” of undisguised white supremacist, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-immigrant violence and repression that Ida B. Wells devoted her life to exposing and opposing.

Speakers at the press conference will describe why this song and its popularity pose an immediate threat. Jason Aldean is coming to the Chicago area in the wake of the murder of three people by a Nazi mass shooter in a Jacksonville, FL, General Dollar store simply for being Black. A week earlier, shop owner Lauri Carlton was assassinated for flying a gay pride flag in a California “small town.” While Aldean did not directly cause those murders, he is guilty of celebrating and promoting a whole mindset that murders like these grow out of, historically AND right now.

Speakers:
Leo Pargo, Revolution Club Chicago, initiator of protest

Rafael Kadaris, member of the National Revolution Tour, correspondent with the RNL (Revolution Nothing Less) Show

Paul Street, journalist and author, most recently “This Happened Here; Amerikaners, Neo-Liberals and the Trumping of America”

Tio Hardiman, CEO Violence Interrupters, host on WVON radio

Fred J. McGee, musician and performer whose son, a well-known rapper, was killed by the police.

Fr. Bob Bossie, SCJ

Rachel Wachstein, lifelong Holocaust educator, social justice activist

The speakers will call on everyone who is sick and tired of all the racist, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-immigrant violence to join the protest Saturday, 6 pm, 191st St.  Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park.

The Revolution Club Chicago says:

*“Our country’s national crime is lynching. It is not the creature of an hour, the sudden outburst of uncontrolled fury, or the unspeakable brutality of an insane mob. It represents the cool, calculating deliberation of intelligent people who openly avow that there is an “unwritten law” that justifies them in putting human beings to death without complaint under oath, without trial by jury, without opportunity to make defense, and without right of appeal.”
From a speech delivered by Ida B. Wells in Chicago, 1900.

We stand together in the face of the new American fascism
to shine a light on a dangerous demagogue, Jason Aldean. He’s not the leader of a political movement nor a politician, but his words and what he stands for feed the beast of American fascism.

His song, “Try That in a Small Town,” is a dog whistle for every white man who longs for the good ol’ days when gays stayed closeted or ended up dead, women were subjugated to the kitchen, and mob justice left African Americans hanging from trees across our nation. The singer performed his song in front of a courthouse located in Columbia, Tennessee, the site of a 1927 lynching and a 1946 race riot. The lyrics reference “good ol’ boys,” ready to fight criminals who disrespect cops and the American flag.

In recent memory, we recall what happened when such dog whistles were made to white Christian nationalists from a national platform, “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by,” which led to increased violence in our streets and the near toppling of our democracy through a violent insurrection.

As students of history, we know the terrifying results of criminalizing and dehumanizing minorities. We know that fascism leads to a fate worse than death. When we say Never Again, we mean it. We will not let fascism take root and grow in our American democracy. Not now. Not ever.

Make no mistake, Jason Aldean is a fascist brute calling on other like-minded people to take up arms against anyone they deem “unAmerican”. Through his music, he normalizes hate and intolerance as American values, which they are not. The First Amendment may protect hate speech, but mobilizing a lynch mob is not protected.

Rachael Wachstein is a lifetime Holocaust educator and a resident of Highland Park who organized actions against fascist policies of the Trump administration. She was present at the July 4th parade in Highland Park when well-known Trump follower Robert Crimo III allegedly shot and killed seven people.

FASCIST COUNTRY MUSIC STAR RALLIES MILLIONS WITH RACIST LYNCHING SONG

What Are YOU Going To Do?

July 24, 2023 revcom.us

Last week, the popular country music singing MAGA fascist Jason Aldean released a video for his song Try That In A Small Town—a white supremacist call for violent retribution against flag-burners, protesters against police murder and “criminals.” The video has gotten 15 million views on YouTube, and hit #1 on the U.S. iTunes chart.

The song and video have caused a shitstorm of controversy—it was pulled from the Country Music TV, and hordes of fascists jumped to Aldean's defense. But while many good people are criticizing Aldean's racism and violent threats, they are ignoring the actual danger of what this song—and the movement it is rallying—concentrates.

In A Declaration, A Call To Get Organized Now For A Real Revolution, we—the revcoms, revolutionary communists—wrote::

These days there is a lot of talk about another civil war, especially from fascists, in government and the broader society, who think they could just carry out a one-sided slaughter of those they hate, including Black people and other people of color, “illegal immigrants,” “uppity women” and those who don’t conform to “traditional” sexual and gender relations and “norms.” This situation needs to be radically changed, to where there are masses of people prepared to defeat these fascists and to do so as part of getting rid of this whole system, which has bred these fascists, along with all the other horrors it continually perpetrates.

“Good Ol’ Boys Raised Right” and Lynchings

This is an anthem for the aggressive and violent assertion of white American manhood. It's a call to arms—to the millions of Christian fascist MAGA thugs who are organizing now to violently enforce their program of theocratic, white supremacist, woman hating, anti-LGBTQ, America first terror. A few nights ago, at a packed concert in Cincinnati, in his intro to this song, Aldean said, “I love my country, I love my family and I'll do ANYTHING to protect that, I can tell you that right now.”

If anyone wants to pretend this doesn't mean violence and terror, you are deluding yourselves. And this isn't far off. All this could come to a head with the looming presidential election in November 2024, if not before.  An election which these fascists have already said will be illegitimate unless they win.
