January 13, Wednesday, 7 pm - Marc Falkoff Marc Falkoff, law professor at Northern Illinois University College of Law, will speak about the 16 Guantánamo detainees he represents and about Poems from Guantánamo: The Detainees Speak, which Marc co-edited. "At last Guantánamo has found its voice." -Gore Vidal on Poems from Guantanamo January 2010 is the 8th anniversary of Guantanamo Bay prison camp, hated throughout the world for being a center of US torture and indefinite unlawful detention.

January 16, Saturday, 2 pm - Greg Kot Greg Kot, rock critic at the Chicago Tribune, will speak about, take questions and sign copies of Ripped: How the Wired Generation Revolutionized Music. Greg cohosts Sound Opinions, "the world's only rock 'n' roll talk show," which is nationally syndicated through Chicago Public Radio. Ripped presents the first definitive account of the digital music revolution, which changed the way music fans have sought and acquired music and led to the end of the recording industry as we know it. "Kot knows his stuff. His book is never better than when it is in the music. But Ripped is about what is happening to music, and Kot stands with the T shirts and not the suits." --Huffington Post

Saturday, January 23 at the Gene Siskel Film Center Chicago release of the highly-acclaimed new movie William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler explore the life of their father, the late radical civil rights lawyer. In the 1960s and 70s he fought for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr., and represented the famed " Chicago 8" activists who protested the Vietnam War. When the inmates took over Attica prison in 1971, or when the American Indian Movement stood up to the federal government at Wounded Knee, they asked Kunstler to be their lawyer. His daughters give this movie a perspective seldom seen of such a controversial figure. They speak as a younger generation about this important role model for everyone. Emily and Sarah have generously offered the Saturday 7:45 pm showing to be a benefit for the Prisoners Revolutionary Literature Fund and Revolution Books Chicago. Tickets for this show are on sale for $20 each, and are available at Revolution Books or from organizers of this benefit. Proceeds will go to PRLF and Revolution Books Chicago. Both Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler will be attending the Saturday evening showing, and will be part of a Q & A session immediately afterwards. She is author of Revolt On Goose Island: The Chicago Factory Takeover, and What it Says About the Economic Crisis; Out of the Sea and Into the Fire: Latin American-US Immigration in the Global Age, and co-author with Wafaa Bilal of Shoot an Iraqi: Art, Life and Resistance Under the Gun. Kari's reporting has taken her to the US-Mexico border and throughout Latin America. She reports on issues of globalization and immigration, human trafficking, the sex industry and the environment. Kari also reports from frontlines in US cities. This includes writing on the workers' occupation at Republic Windows and Doors last winter and the recent police killing of Mark Barmore and protests in Rockford.

Friday, December 4th 7pm Film Showing - The Murder of Fred Hampton XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX December 4 is the 40th anniversary of the murder of Fred Hampton by the Chicago Police. The Murder of Fred Hampton began as a film portrait of Hampton and the Illinois Black Panther Party, but half way through the filming, Hampton was murdered by Chicago police. On December 4, 1969, over a dozen police burst into Hampton 's apartment while its occupants were sleeping, killing Hampton and fellow Panther Mark Clark and brutalizing the other occupants. Filmmakers Mike Gray and Howard Alk arrived a few hours later to shoot film footage of the crime scene that was later used to contradict the false news reports and police testimony. Recently restored and reworked by Gray, this 90-minute documentary is a chilling slice of American history.
