“American Crime” is a regular feature of revcom.usEach installment focuses on one of the 100 worst crimes committed by the U.S. rulers—out of countless bloody crimes they have carried out against people around the world, from the founding of the U.S. to the present day.
Join us thisTuesday at 7:00 PM EDT for a Facebook Live discussion about the 1985 MOVE Massacre --- when the city of Philadelphia bombed the house of members of MOVE. This was only the second time in U.S. history that the government has dropped a bomb on U.S. soil. They killed 11 people and devastated an entire African-American neighborhood.
You can read about this American Crime here.
Members of MOVE driven out of their home at gunpoint. On May 13, 1985, police killed 11 MOVE members including 5 children, and burned down 61 homes in West Philadelphia.
On Tuesday night, we will be joined by Carl Dix, a revolutionary who is a follower of Bob Avakian. Carl was one of the 100+ individuals who led the "Draw the Line" response to the MOVE bombing.

Bob Avakian has written that three things "have to happen in order for there to be real and lasting change for the better." The first is that "people have to fully confront the actual history of this country and its role in the world up to today, and the terrible consequences of this."

Todd Miller discusses his recent book:
Empire of Borders:
The Expansion of the US Border around the World

In Empire of Borders, journalist Todd Miller takes the reader with him on a journey. In Syria, Guatemala, Kenya, Palestine, Mexico, the Philippines, and elsewhere, Miller reveals how the United States is outsourcing its border patrol. Through training and aid programs and infiltration of its agents, the U.S. is effectively expanding its borders: to enforce U.S. imperial economic and strategic interests. Miller finds that borders aren't making the world safe but are the front-line in a global war against the poor.
Empire of Borders is available now at the special price of $26 from Revolution Books online store here.

Todd Miller's work has appeared in the New York Times, The Nation, San Francisco Chronicle, Guernica, and Al Jazeera English. He has written two other books: Storming the Wall: Climate Change, Migration, and Homeland Security (City Lights, 2017), and Border Patrol Nation: Dispatches from the Front Lines of Homeland Security (City Lights, 2014).

"...The artificiality of borders, and the commitment of the world's wealthy and powerful to preserve their wealth and power through them, have never been so clearly laid out."
Aviva Chomsky, author of Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal
