9/20 Funeral of Corey Harris - Murdered by Police

Corey17-year old Corey Harris was a star basketball player at Dyett High School on Chicago's South side just starting his junior year. He was chased down an alley and shot in the back, murdered, by an off-duty police officer on September 11th at 3:30 in the afternoon. The Chicago Police Department has admitted that he was unarmed at the time he was shot.

Corey's funeral will be held at A.R. Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 78th and Cottage Grove Ave, at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 20th (wake starts at 3:00 pm)

Even as the facts surrounding Corey's murder are still coming to the surface, what is clear is that his death is an outrage. Another life taken, stolen away by law enforcement--this time a young man with an 8 month old baby and a whole life ahead of him. The family of Corey Harris welcomes widespread attendance at the funeral as a show of support for the struggle for justice. We urge all friends of Revolution Books to attend and show Corey's friends and family that they are not alone, as part of taking a stand against this outrage.

Stolen Lives book Rides will be available from Revolution Books at 2 pm or call the store for further information at 773-489-0930.

For those who cannot attend, we will be holding a discussion on the murder of Corey Harris, the need for revolution and for mass protest and resistance to the epidemic of police brutality and murder. Why does this happen, year in and year out? What can be done about it and what difference does protest make?
