On Monday Aug 17, the Democratic National Convention opens, mainly virtually. Millions will be watching with hopes that the Democratic ticket can put an end to the horrors of the past three and a half years. However, in the face of blatant voter suppression, the dismantling of the USPS, and promises of thug "monitors" at the polls, others see little hope in these "elections." Refuse Fascism Chicago Chapter will hold a press conference to announce the mobilization that is in fact the only real hope of ending this fascist regime: Stop Waiting for Saviors - Get into the Streets on September 5! Trump/Pence Out NOW
Refuse Fascism has issued a Call for September 5 for united mass protests in cities around the country that states, "This election, if there is an election, will be a showdown over the form of rule in this country." This showdown will not be decided simply inside a voting booth on November 3. Rather than wait for November, we call on everyone to take action now that will impact what future we have, including whether there is even an election.
At this press conference, plans for September 5 will be announced, when Chicago joins with protests in cities across the country demanding this nightmare must end and building sustained non-violent protest to remove a regime that threatens all humanity.
