Nov 17, 2012- Take It to the Streets!  Stop the War on Women!   Abortion on Demand and Without Apology End Pornography & Patriarchy: The Enslavement and Degradation of Women Across the country and in different ways, join with others to stand up and speak out.    We will not accept a world where women are routinely raped, brutalized, humiliated and degraded. We will not lie down as women's right to abortion and even birth control is being stripped away. We will resist the culture of rape and pornography that equates sex with domination and conquest and treats women as mere objects to be plundered by men. We will RESIST and we will take a big step towards DEFEATING this war on women. And, through doing so, we will become the people and the seeds of a whole better future.   A future where no woman ever again knows what it is to fear for her safety at the hands of men. Where women never again know what it is to give themselves to a man sexually for any reason other than their own desire-free of pressure, judgment, or degradation. A world where men view women as full human beings and full partners. A world where lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people have not only the full rights-but the full respect-as everyone else. And a culture filled with poetry and music and other forms of art that foster deep respect towards women.   Wherever you are and whatever you do on November 17-be it a march or street theater, a protest at a strip club or an anti-abortion church, a speak-out or poetry reading, or some sort of public "social intervention" where a lot of folks gather-you will be joined by others around the country. UP DATE ON EMERGENCY FUNDRAISING

FOR REVOLUTION BOOKS

There is no other place, no other bookstore that fills such a great need.

Revolution Books has been on a 1 month emergency fund drive to raise $2,000 from Sept. 15-Oct. 15. People have stepped forward in many ways: sustaining, donating larger sums, volunteering, dropping off  used books and sidewalk sale items. Others bought books.  Friends have spread the word to co-workers. Many have seen the sign in our window and called to see how they can contribute. To all  who have contributed thank you. 

In the course of this drive, we have  already raised $970. This falls short of our current needs so more people need to step forward and become part of a expanding fundraising campaign and contributing right now in order to raise the remaining $1030.   

For RB to keep its doors open it will take $2,000 every month through sales, sustainers, fundraising events and donations.  In particular, people becoming sustainers play a huge role in meeting the emergency needs while also building a reliable base of financial support in an ongoing way.

At Stake:  

The world is a horror but something much better is possible - this is why it's important to support Revolution Books. It is a critical time historically where two opposite futures are possible. RB challenges conventional wisdom that this capitalist system is the best humanity can do.  People need to explore a new vision and strategy to change the world- while engaging books from Darwin to Danticat. Without Revolution Books- the world will be left as it is. We can not let that happen.      

   

 What you can do right now:  

 1. Go to chicagorevolutionbooks.blogspot.com and sign up  to sustain RB  at $10-50 per month or make a onetime contribution.  

2. Contribute in any way possible to the performance of The Fever by Wally Shawn, performed by David Shapiro this December. Help sell tickets, be part of a organizing committee or help publicize the event.

3. Help organize a holiday bazaar and party: Donate and sell art work, posters, jewelry, baked goods or other items.

4. Suggest author events, movies and discussions.

5. Become a volunteer, staff an hour or two, or a day. Your ideas and creativity need to be in the house! Work on window displays, research new books and expand various sections of our book selection. Everyone can contribute something.

October 22, 2012 has to be more than a day of protest as usual. It must be a day when our rage at the whole criminal "injustice" system in this country is manifested. A day when people go to the prisons and call for an end to mass incarceration. When there is mass political resistance against the institutions and officials involved in profiling Muslims, Arabs and South Asians and against those carrying out raids and deportations aimed at immigrants. People have to figure out the ways to creatively make our determination to end all this injustice real and powerful. October 22, 2012: We face an emergency situation. The powers-that-be have unleashed their whole criminal "injustice" system to carry out an intensifying murderous assault on oppressed people across the country. Law enforcement treats whole generations of Black and Latino youth like criminals, guilty until proven innocent-if they can survive to prove their innocence. This approach is concentrated in policies like the NYPD's stop-and-frisk, under which almost 2,000 people, most of them Black or Latino and almost all of them doing absolutely nothing wrong, are subjected to harassment, disrespect, brutality and worse EACH AND EVERY DAY. And police departments across the country carry out the same kind of racial profiling. Close to 2.4 million people are warehoused in prisons in the U.S. More than 80,000 of them are held in solitary confinement, subjected to conditions that fit the international definition of torture. More than 5 million people who have already served their sentences and been released face discrimination when seeking work, are banned from living in public housing, can't get government loans and aren't allowed to vote. All this adds up to tens of millions of people living their lives enmeshed in the web of the criminal justice system.
