Wednesday, April 27, 7-9 pm Professor David Archer Explains New Findings on Global Warming To mark Earth Day 2016, one of the world's leading climatologists, Professor David Archer, geophysicist at the University of Chicago, will join us to explain the prediction of a recent study by an international group of climate scientists including James Hansen--that   a dangerous rise of sea water, 1 meter or more, will occur within 50 to 100 years. This human-driven, planet-wide thaw will flood coastal areas across the globe and unleash superstorms--in the lifetime of children who are born today.   Read more and watch James Hanson's 15-minute video discussing his findings here. In addition to his own scientific work, Dr. Archer is an avid popularizer of the science of climate change and global warming, including in classes aimed at non-scientists. Join us to understand this environmental emergency more deeply and discuss what must be done to address it. Saturday, April 30, noon-1 pm   Revolution Book Club--Fire on the Mountain Terry Bisson's visionary novel imagines John Brown succeeding in the assault on the Harper's Ferry arsenal, unleashing a slave rebellion in 1859 that overthrows slavery and establishes the socialist Black nation of Nova Africa in the liberated South. Nova Africa's second Mars expedition is set to touch down on the red planet when one of its scientists discovers the letters of a teenage ex-slave telling how he fought in John Brown's guerrilla army.
